As a member of the Golf Management Team, the Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for the overall management of the golf operations while working cooperatively with other departments. The Head Golf Professional should have a natural ability to lead and motivate, and a passion for the game. He/she should also have strong interpersonal skills and be able to foster relationships with members and guests.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Golf Operations Management
- Be responsible for the on time daily opening of the facilities, overseeing the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play
- Collect and record on the Club’s behalf, green fees, members fees, club and cart rentals, locker rentals, merchandise revenue and
- other such income as may arise from time to time facilitating accurate accounting and recordkeeping
- Oversee the golf cart fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping
- Schedule commercial tournaments, group outings, leagues, and assisting with their organization and supervision as necessary.
- Oversee the operations of a well-managed practice facility and driving range
- Provide professional club repair and club fitting services
- Supervise a Marshal Program at the course
Retail Management
- Operate and maintain a profitable golf merchandising operation for repairs, storage, sales, rentals and golf services, related
- equipment/merchandise and carts
- Oversee development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing
- Supervise physical inventories, present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, accessories
Golf Administration
- Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all Pro Shop staff
- Update and maintain Pro Shop policies and procedures and job descriptions
- Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials
- Cooperate with recognized men’s & ladies’ clubs and their various committees, as workload requirements and scheduling permits,
- and provide professional advice, opinions, assistance and services as required.
- Attend applicable committee meetings and board, management, and staff meetings when requested
Player Development
- Ensure that golf be taught only by qualified instructors.
- Implement and maintain appropriate junior golf program
Business and Financial
- Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations and golf services, ensuring all financial goals
- and objectives are being achieved
- Assist in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources
- In keeping with clubs’ revenue targets, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage
Essential Qualifications
- Five or more years’ experience
- Maintain PGA of America membership class “A” in good standing in an active classification
- Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
- Fundamental supervisory practices and principles
- Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behaviour and work ethic expected of all employees
- Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills
- Self-motivated with desire to promote and market
- Service and customer focused attitude
- Experienced in written and oral business communications
- Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies
- Experienced computer user including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e. email, internet, tournament and online booking and proshop database software
- Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community
- Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations
Compensation
- PGA of Canada dues covered
- Annual Salary $75-$80K
- Lesson revenue shared
